Saturday Beginner Structured Training Sessions

Would you like to learn how to ride the track? Well, you can almost every Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. Sessions are led by experienced Hellyer Velodrome Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors. We have all of the equipment you need to get you turning left on our banked oval, or you can use your own fixed gear bike.

When: 8:30-12:30 p.m.

Who: Beginners through Intermediate riders are welcome. This is a beginner focused session, and all riders must follow the structured format directed by the Supervisor (it is not an individual workout session).  Road racers can benefit greatly from learning to ride and race at the track.

What: Instruction on Safety, Fixed Gear Riding, Velodrome Racing, and lots of practice and exercise.

Why: Because to ride the track you need to learn to ride safely — it’s a lot of fun when you know the basics.

What to Bring: Waiver, helmet, warm clothing, a snack, water, sunscreen. If you use clipless pedals and shoes, you may swap those out on the rental bike (all rentals have flat pedals with cages). If you have a track bike bring that also.

Cost:

$20 for adults who need a rental track bicycle. (Season Pass not Applicable)

$15 for adults who bring their own track specific bikes.

$10 for riders ages 19-25 years old (includes rental bicycle).

$0 Juniors 9-18 (free, accompanied by a guardian, attendance without a guardian must be pre-approved by the Supervisor).

Parking: $6 (Paid at park’s entrance)

Bike Rental: Rental bikes are distributed on a “first come, first served” basis. Be there at 8:00 AM for best rental bike selection.

NOTE: No gear, wheel or other changes allowed on rental bikes

How to attend (all steps below are required):

  1. Fill out a waiver: County of Santa Clara Park & Rec & NCVA Waiver. A valid waiver must be on-file (in advance) or handed in at each session. Juniors must have parents/guardian sign waiver. DO NOT show up at a session without having a waiver (online or a paper copy). You may be turned away from the session.
  2. Register for the session: Check the calendar for the session you want to attend, then, sign up and pay in advance.
  3.  Show up and have some fun.

Weather: Rain or wet track cancels the sessions.
